Oh, Healing River: Hope for the Watershed

14 - 17 de Febrero 2026

Casa Nube - Costa Rica

What is this event about?

“Oh, Healing River: Hope for the Watershed” is an immersive event designed to deepen our understanding of the current global climate crisis and to awaken our responsibility as Christians and as members of the wider community of creation. Led by members of the A Rocha Costa Rica team, including Ruth Padilla DeBorst, this space will frame the conversation through both scientific insight and deep biblical and theological reflection.

This experience is structured to go beyond the transmission of information and lead toward transformation, offering space for deep personal reflection, prayer, and communal discernment. It seeks to ensure that every participant leaves with a renewed sense of hope and a practical commitment to live out an active and loving faith on behalf of the planet and our global neighbors.

Who is leading it?

Sue A. Rozeboom

She is a professor of liturgical theology at Western Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan) and an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America. In addition to exploring the theology and practice of Christian worship as a narrative communion with the living God, she is an enthusiastic amateur birdwatcher and a “liturgical” gardener of native species. She, her husband Paul, and their two college-aged children, Liesl and Charlie, love the outdoors and well-told stories.

Ruth Padilla DeBorst

As a theologian, missiologist, and storyteller, Ruth is a passionate advocate for just coexistence (living well within the community of creation). She teaches, writes, and promotes responsible biblical and theological engagement to nurture this vision and practice as part of the A Rocha Costa Rica team.

Casa Nube - Costa Rica

What is this event about?

This event invites young adults to take part in a transformative journey to Costa Rica, where they will experience firsthand the work of A Rocha Costa Rica’s ministries. Through shared life and service, participants will actively engage in initiatives focused on community development, ecological justice, and support for immigrant communities.

Throughout the experience, participants will live out a model of intentional, gospel-centered life by taking part in the daily work of A Rocha and sharing spaces of community, learning, and service.

Each day will be shaped by moments of dialogue, reflection, and exploration, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of Costa Rica’s cultural, social, and environmental realities. In addition, prior to the trip, participants will receive cultural and spiritual preparation, as well as tools to help integrate what they learn into their everyday lives upon returning home.
